Senate Budget Eliminates Chiropractic Care from the Medicaid System
May 27, 2011
As North Carolina deals with the most severe budgetary crisis in its history, legislators are looking everywhere to make cuts. Unfortunately, the proposed Senate Budget released late yesterday would eliminate all optional services, including chiropractic care, from the state's Medicaid system.
While the NCCA works to combat these cuts behind the scenes on the Senate side, you and your patients are urged to contact your House Representatives immediately! The Senate budget will soon move to the House of Representatives for discussion, so it is imperative that we act now to convince our House Representatives to save chiropractic coverage in the Medicaid system.
As many other states have realized, losses within the Medicaid and Medicare systems could set a precedent that private insurers might follow. It is our job to educate our state's policymakers now. Other optional services, including dental, optometry, podiatry, etc., will also be cut under the Senate's proposed budget.
It is best to have your patients make a personal phone call to their House Representatives, but the NCCA has also prepared a letter that your patients can email or mail to their Representatives. Please CLICK HERE to view the letter, which includes talking points they can also use in a phone conversation.
